Galway October Race meeting 2011

Galway October Race meeting

The excitement of last Saturday’s horse racing at the famous Ballybrit Racecourse still lingers in my mind. No doubt, this is due in no small part, to my early days in Ballinrobe. Here we had an annual Race Meeting, attended by young and old alike. On Saturday I felt that same old excitement and our members in attendance were not disappointed.
As our photos show, we had a lovely gourmet meal in the Killanin Stand and a wonderful day’s horse racing. It was great fun discussing the horses, especially as our knowledge of them was absolutely nil. Placing our bets and then watching carefully the race, together with jockey’s colour and number at hand was really good fun. Although none of us became rich, as a result of our day’s racing, we actually didn’t do too badly at all. We had two experienced turf accountants at our table to guide us (so thank you Anne and Cecelia!).
We now look forward to our next outing, the Ara-go-on Celebration in Salthill Hotel Galway.
